New drivers looking for First Time Van Insurance usually fall victim to higher premiums but that doesn’t mean Call Wiser can’t find you the best deal possible. We work with over 30 leading van insurance companies in the UK and by comparing a range of discounts and deals, we can find the right policy for you.
Young drivers aged 17-24 looking for van insurance tend to pay more than the average driver because young people are less experienced on the road and more likely to be involved in an accident.
According to figures from the AA, a quarter or road accidents in the UK involve at least one young driver. This results in a higher insurance premium, as insurers need to manage the risk of a claim being made. Also, young drivers cannot take advantage of a no claims discount (NCD) which allows you to receive a discount of up to 65% if you can avoid making claims on your vehicle.
Call Wiser offers market-beating rates for Insurance for First Time Drivers. Simply because you don’t have a lot of driving experience, doesn’t mean that you are a bad driver and should have to pay huge amounts for your van insurance. Whether you use a van for your work or leisure, we can help find a policy that is tailored to your needs.

With the cost of First Time Van Insurance usually so high, we offer some top tips to reduce the cost of your premium:
Cheaper van – the lower the value of your van, the less is costs to repair and replace, so this will bring down your premium. Any high-end vans or those with expensive modifications will simply be more expensive to repair for the insurer. You do not want a van that is too cheap because if it is very old and in poor condition, this could increase your premium as it increases the risk of an accident.
Limit mileage – your premium will depend largely on how many miles you drive each year. You can limit this by doing a rota with another colleague to work or taking public transport. If you think that your mileage has been overstated or you’re not entirely sure how many miles you do each year, you can set up a telematics box which monitors the number of miles you do through a satellite and adjusts your premium accordingly.
Pay in one lump sum – by paying your insurer up front your insurance for the entire year, you will make a saving. Most insurers give the option of making smaller monthly instalments but some charge a fee of up to £200 per year for doing so.
Add security features – it is important to add safety features to your van to reduce the risk of theft. Adding locks, alarms or keeping your van in a garage overnight will mean your van will less likely be stolen and insurers will reward you with a lower premium.
Type of cover – Call Wiser can help you find the right cover and so you don’t pay for anything that you don’t need. For instance, you can look at just getting third party cover, which will protect you against any damages made to other vehicles, pedestrians and property. However, if you damage your van, the repairs will come out of your own pocket.
A common tactic by young drivers to reduce the cost of their insurance is to name a more experienced driver as the main driver. This is known as ‘fronting’ and is illegal and can also invalidate your policy.
Don’t forget: You must have insurance at all times on the road. Driving without insurance is illegal and can lead to 6 penalty points and a fine of up to £1,000.
